By Art Acedera on The Capital

Based on Dan Lok’s 13 Things To Avoid If You Want To Become Rich.

The Blame Ego

You tend to blame everyone including yourself that’s why you are struggling financially.

“I don’t have enough money for that.”
“I’m poor because of my family.”
“I have a minimum wage, that’s why I’m in-debt.”

The Know it all Ego

When you’re broke, you always think that you know it all, that’s why you are struggling financially.

“I don’t need to read books, this is piece of cake.”
“I know what I’m doing, I don't need them.”
“I know it all.”

The Fearful Ego

You’re afraid of taking risks, you’re afraid of trying something new and you’re afraid to fail. That’s why you are broke because you’re afraid of what might happen if you try to become rich.

“I might lose it all if I invest my money on this.”
“I can’t take risk, I might fail.”
“What if it doesn’t work?”

The Comfort zone Ego

You get comfortable with the life that you have right now, even though you’re struggling financially.

“I’m fine with my life.”
“I don’t need to be rich, I can live in this kind of life that I have.”
“I drink liquor everyday, I earned $250 a month, and I think this life that I have it’s kinda fun.”

The Judgemental Ego

You tend to judge people based on what you think about them. This is due to insecurity that other people have what you don’t have.

“Oh, look at that girl with her yellow Mustang, she might be a Gold digger.”
“That boy with his Rolex watch always it flexing everyday in our office, maybe he got that from his parents, sleazy kid.”
“Why she got a promotion?, just look at her, she seems like always playing around and not working, we should be the one who got promoted not her.”

Excuses Ego

You see you can make money, or you can make excuses. — Dan Lok

“I can’t afford it.”
“I can’t work there, it’s too far from my home.”
“I can’t apply in that company, I don’t match their criteria for choosing an applicant.”

The People Pleasing Ego

You always put people first more than yourself. You always give but you don’t take, sometimes you also need to put yourself first more than everyone if you want to become successful.

“As long as their okay, I’m okay too.”
“I’m dealing with debts right now but they need my help.”
“I need to sell my car, for my friend’s sake.”

The Justification Ego

You always justify your actions that’s why you’re suffering financially.

“I don’t have enough experience.”
“I’m too young for that kind of stuff.”
“I can’t go there, I’ve got kids that I need to watch grow up.”

The Jealous Ego

Your jealousy toward other people is what holding you back to being rich.

“Most Business Entrepreneurs are greedy.”
“They only reach success because they scam people.”
“That Youtuber is a scammer.”

The Fake Ego

You try to be everybody else, that you don’t know yourself anymore.

“You tend to hide the real you, in order for everybody to like you.”
“You follow your parent’s decision on what course to take in college instead of following your own path. You want to be a graphic designer but you’re afraid that they might hate you or they might kick you out off their house, so instead you follow their decision.”

The Shy Ego

You use shyness as an excuse why you’re not going from rags to riches.

“I’m an introvert, I can’t talk to people.”
“I’m shy, I can’t work with people.”
“I can’t take this interview, I’m shy and the employer seems scary.”

The other People’s Opinion Ego

You’re worried about what might people think of you even though deep down you feel it is the right thing to do. You let them stop you from doing what you want.

“They might criticize me if they found out that I want to be an Artist.”
“I don’t think they would like me, if I dropout of college and started what I really want to do.”
“My friends want to take engineering course, but I want to become an Entrepreneur, they might hate me if i don’t do the same.”

The Do it Yourself Ego

You always do it yourself, this is because you don’t trust other people’s advice. That is why you tend to do everything by yourself alone.

“I can do this even without relying on anybody else.”
“I can do everything by myself, I don’t need a team to accompany me.”
“I don’t trust people, I only trust myself.”
